The purpose of the TEP Core Facilities is to provide convenient access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Experiment objectives that include methods of quantifications and observation of qualitative results are performed on our biomolecular analysis equipment. The Histology area is equipped with sample prep stations like our high precision cryosection tool and produces tissue sections from 0.5 to 100 microns thick prior to mounting on a glass micro slide, then followed by optional staining. Techniques and capabilities to perform intravital and live cell imaging are elevated to a high standard when using our LSM 710 confocal/Multi photon microscope. Optional sterilization is available for materials that are highly sensitive to unfavorable surroundings. All activities enhance, support, and further the research mission and endeavors of the GT community.

To make a reservation to use core facilities equipment, view equipment availability, etc. you must be a registered user in the GT Shared User Management System (SUMS). Please contact us with questions or if you encounter any difficulties.

Facility Highlights:

HISTOLOGY

  • Temperature setting range from -5°C to -35°C for the cutting blade
  • Sectioning yield of 0.5µm to 500µm thick for trimming
  • Sectioning yield of 0.5µm to 100µm thick for fine sectioning
  • Editing capabilities for up to 15 active protocols
  • User friendly environment for all programing needs with simultaneous performance.
  • Two level circular basket design which saves bench top space
  • Power supply strong enough to fluctuations w/ battery backup
  • Fume control managed with carbon filters or vent adapter kit
  • Four (4) mode operation: interval, single, multi, and continuous stroke with one knob.
  • Digital backlight graphic display is great for indicating section thickness, cutting speed, section counting, and sample head position.
  • Sectioning yield of 0.5µm to 500µm thick for trimming
  • Sectioning yield of 0.5µm to 100µm thick for fine sectioning

STERILIZATION

  • Gas diffusion process used when equipment is sensitive to moisture.
  • Sterilizes and renders products free of viable microorganisms.
  • Broadest sterilization method for medical products due to its effectiveness at low temperatures and its general compatibility with diverse materials.

BIOMOLECULAR ANALYSIS

  • Wide dynamic range captures the entire range of data without saturation in a single, time-saving scan – no need for multiple scans
  • Multiple Blot and Plate Scanning allows simultaneous scanning of multiple samples with varied intensities in one scan for increased convenience
  • Two-Color Infrared and In-Gel western blots, Cell-Based Assays for In-Cell Western™ and On-Cell Western, Protein Detection for coomassie-Stained Gels
  • Membrane and Slide Arrays, and In Vivo, Whole Organ, and Tissue Section with small animal imaging.
  • The odyssey CLx is equipped with a field size of 25 cm x 25cm, laser lifetime of 40,000.00 working hours
  • Key components: 700 and 800 laser light source, Scanning speed of 5-40 cm/s, resolution of 21-337 micrometers, Microscope focus range 0 mm – 4 mm, Operating environment is 15-35°C and dew point no greater than 20°.
  • Available in four formats to suit your thermal cycling needs: 96-Well (0.2 or 0.1 mL), 384-Well, and 0.5 mL 60-Well.
  • VeriFlex Blocks add control, giving you six independent temperature blocks to provide precise control over your PCR optimization.
