 Strategic Plan 2029

A Visionary Plan for the Future of Biomedical Engineering

at Georgia Tech and Emory University

We are delighted to announce the initiation of the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering's Strategic Plan 2029 process.

We are thrilled to embark on this exciting journey of shaping the future of biomedical engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University. As a unique partnership and a remarkable success story, our department is dedicated to advancing health and well-being by nurturing the next generation of global leaders in this field. With our exceptional bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs consistently recognized among the best worldwide, we have built a solid foundation of excellence in both education and research.

The growth of our department has been nothing short of extraordinary, and it stems from two compelling factors. Firstly, we recognize the existence of unmet clinical needs that demand innovative solutions. From tackling debilitating conditions like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cancer, arthritis, cardiovascular and neurological diseases, to immune disorders, we are committed to making a tangible difference in peoples' lives. By pushing the boundaries of biomedical engineering, we strive to develop groundbreaking technologies and therapies that address these challenges head-on.

Secondly, Georgia Tech attracts some of the brightest minds from Georgia and every corner of the world. As our department expands, we have the privilege of igniting curiosity, fostering scientific rigor, and cultivating the future leaders of our society. By assembling world-class faculty at the forefront of research in key biomedical areas and a dedicated staff, we not only educate and prepare students but also make a significant impact on healthcare.

Now, we invite you to join us in shaping the future of biomedical engineering through our Strategic Plan Process. Together, we will chart a path that leverages our strengths, identifies new opportunities, and ensures our continued success. This is a collaborative effort that embraces innovation, diversity, and inclusivity.

Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this exciting endeavor. Your input and ideas are invaluable, and we look forward to working together as we shape the future of biomedical engineering.

Let's build a world where technology and compassion converge to transform lives.

Mission and Vision Survey

The first crucial step in the strategic plan process is the development of a compelling mission and vision, followed by a set of goals that will serve as our guiding principles. To facilitate your involvement, we have created two distinct versions of the mission statement and vision statement.

These versions represent diverse perspectives and strategic directions, providing you with an opportunity to explore different possibilities.

We value your feedback and input, which is why we have set up an online survey below. Through this survey, you can share your thoughts, suggestions, and preferences regarding the mission and vision. Your insights will play a pivotal role in shaping the final outcome of our strategic plan.

We kindly request that you submit your feedback by Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, to ensure that your voice is heard and considered during the decision-making process.

If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mission and Vision Committee Chair Kim Paige, kim.paige@bme.gatech.edu. We are here to assist and provide any additional information you may need.

Thank you for your active participation and dedication to the future of Coulter BME. Together, let's pave the way for a remarkable journey of innovation and excellence.
