Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering
The Coulter Department's Joint Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering is a collaborative, full-time doctoral program integrating engineering, biology, and medicine. Students are jointly enrolled at Georgia Tech and Emory University, gaining access to exceptional resources across both institutions. The program prepares graduates to lead in academia, industry, or clinical innovation through original research, translational impact, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Program Details
- Full-time doctoral program (5–6 years).
- Jointly awarded Ph.D. degree from Georgia Tech and Emory University.
- Integrated curriculum combining life sciences, engineering, and mathematics.
- Team-taught courses by faculty from both institutions.
- Problem-based learning in the first year.
- Thesis advisor and co-advisor assigned in the first semester.
- Dissertation defense expected within five years.
- Core courses in life sciences and engineering (Year 1).
- Bioethics course and teaching practicum.
- Minimum of 9 credit hours of technical electives.
- 9-credit hour minor outside the thesis research area.
