Stem cell proliferation design
Level - UndergradYou are a team of researchers at Georgia Tech working on tissue engineering technologies and applications. A colleague from another institution has just offered you a source of adult stem cells that can differentiate into several cell types. Given that a robust cell source from an adult circumvents a primary limitation of cell sourcing (i.e. embryonic or fetal sources), you are extremely pleased with this opportunity. Since so many researchers want to use these cells, collectively you want to establish methodology for generating large numbers of cells that have shifted to either a cardiac muscle, blood, or neural phenotype depending on the conditions. You believe that your multidisciplinary team can develop a device (or method) that is better than what currently exists. You will submit a Technology Development proposal (see program announcement below) to a federal agency in order to obtain money to support this research.
