    Franklin Bost has extensive business experience in strategic planning, new product development, senior management and leadership with companies in medical, consumer and industrial markets. He was previously president of an early stage craniofacial biomaterials company, which developed, manufactured and marketed implantable products for bone and cartilage replacement. The business grew to service surgeons in six medical sub-specialties including craniofacial, plastic and reconstructive, oculoplastic, otolaryngology, oral maxillofacial and neurosurgery in the US and over 50 international markets. Mr. Bost served on AdvaMed’s Technology and Regulatory committee from 1992 to 2006. Mr. Bost is President and Chief Executive Officer of SpherIngenics Inc., a Georgia Research Alliance VentureLab funded company, which is focused on commercializing technologies and products for precise delivery of stem cell based products.

Instruction

    Bost teaches the sophomore engineering design and senior capstone medical device design and development courses. This includes the engineering design & development processes for medical devices, FDA and ISO regulatory requirements, business issues relating to strategy and planning, finance and economics, product costing, justifications, project planning and management, ethics in engineering and business, societal issues (cultural, political and environmental), and sustainability. The clinically focused capstone senior team projects incorporate BME course topics and learning into development of a medical product under the supervision of the instructor and outside advisor (MD, MD/PhD, PhD).
